Here’s the thing about all these tech manifestos and whatnot that include, to some degree, “You need to live without it for a day/week/whatever!”
I don’t like CAMPING, okay? I am not going to voluntarily put up the internet for 72 hours any more than I will electricity.
And I’m cool with that.

Rando dude with other rando dude, walking down the block towards me as I approach my house and look studiously at my phone because I hate walking by rando dudes on the street sometimes: Hi?
Me: [half-wave with phone hand]
Rando dude: Cheer up!
Me (passing by them, so loudly to ensure I am not misheard): Fuck off!
Rando dude (sounding actually not sarcastic, although not super apologetic either): Sorry.
Is there a specific word for this particular type of street talk? Something like "feminine mood policing" or something?

Hmm, yeah, we don’t remember doing anything like that either.

A Phone Call to the Future Mary Jo Salter 1. Who says science fiction is only set in the future? After a while, the story that looks least believable is the past. The console television with three channels. Black and white picture. Manual controls: the dial clicks when you turn it, like the oven. You have to get up and walk somewhere to change things. You have to leave...

Who has a wedding on a Friday?
bluebears:

Don’t these people have jobs?
mattgorman for the win, thank you and good night (morning).
Actually, a lot of people in the US are getting married on a Friday now because it’s typically several grand cheaper (when you’re in the median price range for weddings) than getting married on a Saturday. I’ll grant you that a Friday morning is still...

cjalifelessordinary asked: Hi, you seem to be pretty in the know on gender and LGBTQ things. So, question. I was browsing online and came across some new terms for people who are transgendered and transitioning. The common terms before were MTF (male to female) and FTM (female to male), which is about changing from one to the other, IMHO. Anyway, the new terms I came across, and like a lot are, TTF (transitioning to...

Atlantis—A Lost Sonnet Eavan Boland How on earth did it happen, I used to wonder that a whole city—arches, pillars, colonnades, not to mention vehicles and animals—had all one fine day gone under? I mean, I said to myself, the world was small then. Surely a great city must have been missed? I miss our old city— white pepper, white pudding, you and I meeting under fanlights and low...
